Bored bored bored bored bored [Sep. 1st, 2008|11:36 pm]
[Current Mood | blah]
[Current Music |Megaman 8 - Ice Stage]

So hey, I'm 21 now. I can buy alcohol legally.
Actually, I probably won't just because the stuff is expensive and I prefer soda anyway. I bought a bottle of Captain Morgan's private stock for my birthday, but that was only because I could and the bottle is really nice.
I have no inclinations to drink except perhaps in moderation at parties to help me relax. Not much, as I don't like the stuff, but a little helps me calm down.
Anyway, I've been noticing something strange lately. Nearly everyone I know has left, and a few of them I miss dearly, but I don't feel it. I know the pain is there, but its somewhere where I can't reach it. Ugh, that sounds like a path to being emo now that I've typed that out. Regardless, maybe it's because I've grown used to such pains, or I've learned how to deal with it to a degree that I don't even have to think about it, or maybe I'm fine because as much as I miss them I know I'll see them again. Doesn't matter, I suppose, as I WILL see them again.
I should be visiting Michigan Tech sometime in October, along with Degan and Josh. I'll visit U of I as soon as Kinder gets a job so we can drive his car and can go halfsies on gas.
In other old, tired news, I still don't have a girlfriend but I think this semester that'll change. I have my friends whom I care for very much, but odds are things would get weird if we were to make out or have sex. Just guessing.
I guess thats it for now.

Huh... [May. 27th, 2008|01:11 am]
[Current Mood | exhausted]

So, I've just had an interesting realization. While reading the transcript for the Q&A session hosted by Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro for the upcoming Hobbit movie, I suddenly felt a bit of apprehension. I realize I have in my own mind what Middle Earth is like in the Hobbit, and I'm suddenly not so sure I want to see someone else's idea. I have every confidence in the skill of these film makers, and I do still look forward to the new movies. However, I'm going to have to find a way to preserve my own mental image of the Middle Earth as it was in the Hobbit.

Been playing Team Fortress 2 so much lately. Gold Rush is so addictive.

I need to have a talk to Darcy about her blatant blowing off/ excuse making. Even if the one she used this morning was 100% true, it was still really weak. I mean really. She's fed me some tall ones (even though many are supposedly legit, or so I've been told), but after this Saturday, anything about her parents making her do something or not letting her go out gets thrown out the window. She'll be 18 with no job and no school. Can I change her? Probably not, but I am forgiving and patient to a fault. Maybe she's playing me for a chump, maybe she's just developed these habits and no one's been able to tell her, or maybe she really just doesn't care. Kyleen didn't really talk to her until it was TOO DAMN LATE because she didn't want me to talk for her. And if by chance either of them see this (which I doubt but whatever), shame on both of you. I love you both, but you acted VERY immaturely and right now you both drive me absolutely INSANE.
I hate women so much. But I can't live without them (not true: I've done it for years, though somewhat miserably). They're like a drug!

Cold Fusion and holograms? Maybe. Probably not in the near future.

Hitler - The Original Emo Kid! [May. 4th, 2008|01:04 am]
[Current Mood | restless]
[Current Music |The Killers - Bones]

So...the HUNK project is near complete. Cost me more than I care to talk about, but I'm glad I was finally able to do it. Besides, the tactical vest I got can hold a ton of soda cans. I'm going to be so useful and convenient all the time. I'm just waiting for some stuff in the mail. I hope it gets here in time. It would be a shame if I had to postpone its debut just because one or two parts didn't show up. I can do without the elbow pads, but the gloves are a must....I should contact the online store I bought them from and tell them to ship the gloves alone if they do not get the elbow pads in soon. As in...by Wednesday.
Anyway, money will be tight. I must pay for college, ACen is in two weeks....hard to believe its here already (which reminds me, I need to get my registration confirmation printed out), I'm thinking about buying the PS3/MGS4 bundle next month, and I'm also considering buying a minivan. Weird, I know, but it is a very nice minivan for a very nice price. Just happened today. My dad is selling one for a friend and I got to go for a ride in it. Really the only thing wrong with it is the paint color, which is very dainty. Of course I can change that, but it is a consideration. I don't mind being seen driving around a minivan, but an old-lady violet colored minivan? I do have my pride.
I need a better job. Jewel isn't cutting it for me anymore (2-year anniversary was on Thursday), and working with Degan will kill me. I know now why his knee got fucked up and why his dad's body is so fucked up. Plus all those noxious Diesel fumes and long hours...no proper schedule because pretty much everyone in the business is a lying prick and can't figure out when the hell they'll actually have their barge in. Drives me nuts.
Hmmmmm also....still no girlfriend. Not even a friend with benefits, or a prospective girlfriend. *sigh* Life was good 6 months ago.

Obligatory Continuation and Clarificaton [Feb. 16th, 2008|12:11 pm]
[Current Mood | groggy]
[Current Music |Critical Acclaim - Avenged Sevenfold]

Once again, to anyone who read last night's entry, my thanks for taking the time to trudge through that crap. I reward you with the trailer to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/indianajones.html;_ylt=AsY7qv8MSH6wl3g1GC6bw55fVXcA
Sorry, but I can't embed links or any of that fancy stuff due to LJ's evident dislike of Firefox (or at least NoScript, Keyscrambler, and AdBlock Plus).
Anyway, enjoy that trailer. It gives me hope that it will be as wonderful as the old films yet new and fresh at the same time. At least, the trailer is very good. But then, that is exactly what a trailer is designed to do.
On a random and completely unrelated note, I've been banned from 4chan. Again. The first time was completely bogus and so they lifted it within hours. Though it was funny.
This time I kinda feel bad about. Someone started posting CP and instead of immediately reporting it (which I was going to do, mind you), I instead posted a response image of a FBI task force bursting through the website's background (which I still think is funny). And for that I must wait two weeks before I can go back. Two weeks away from 4chan won't exactly be bad for me. Heck, maybe I'll even stop going.
So evidently the desire to go down to North Carolina is still alive. Degan, Jessika and Josh asked me about it at dinner, and I told them that I thought it was dead because the last time I tried bugging anybody about it, everyone was like "Well, it seems too expensive and unrealistic, and I don't think I'll be able to go anyway." It is realistic and it's not as much as you think, but fair enough, I think that's reasonable. Oh, except Mika. Mika's excuse was that she had signed up for summer school courses with Kinder and neither of them would be able to go, despite the fact that she had told me just a few week prior that she still wanted to go and had been looking forward to it since I brought in the catalogs when we had ROTC together. Now, I'm not saying that I think that's unreasonable, but it is rather inconsiderate to tell someone that and then have a complete and conscious change of direction. Now, I don't hold a grudge against her; I do forgive, but I never forget.
So I'd like to talk/ write some more about the HUNK cosplay project. Please feel free to skip over my self-indulgent babbling.
The things I've already bought/ have ordered:
-The gas mask. This thing was seriously a pain in the ass to find. It's a British military gas mask, so really the only way to get one was to find a shady dealer or buy directly from soldiers who were recently honorably discharged (or whatever they call it over there) and are hocking all their gear on eBay. I must say, I was impressed with the speed and professionalism with which it was shipped. Unfortunately, I had to settle for the British Avon S10 model rather than the SF10, which is what HUNK uses. The differences are that the SF10 was designed mainly for riot police and civilian use, and it has two openings for filter canisters (as opposed to one and a speaking outlet on the S10). The other big difference is the fact that the SF10 has flat lenses, whereas the S10 does not. They are not really convex, either. It feels like they're designed so that a soldier can press the lens right up against the scope of his rifle and shoot straight. It's weird, but useful. All in all, I'd prefer to have exactly the right gear, but being able to speak with the mask on is going to be a big plus.
- The helmet. I did some digging and found out he uses a standard US military PAGST helmet. Good thing is they make ABS plastic replicas of them which are only like $20 and look realistic. Bad thing is, they're very popular and are constantly out of stock to the point that it was much easier for me to find a real one, but those are $250 for the base model. I finally found one and ordered it. I'm still waiting for it to be shipped, but that's what I get for ordering replica military gear on Valentine's Day.
- The Baklava. Not much to say here, except it's a long SWAT baklava to cover up any part of my head or neck (or hair) which isn't covered up by the mask or helmet. If any part of skin is exposed the effect will be lost. I went looking for one when I was up in Houghton, Michigan (in the upper peninsula where it's fricking cold), but mysteriously I could not find a single one. No biggie.
- The kneepads. They're just plain old tactical kneepads. They're black, and I ordered them with the helmet and baklava. No story here.
- The vest. This was probably by far the most difficult thing to find. For one, there are very few reference images of HUNK and none of them show his chest very well. It was only after closely examining the few images available and asking for help on 4chan's cosplay section that I was able to determine what I needed. Then I still had the task of finding it for a price I was willing to swallow. Due to my NOS-induced hyperactivity last night, I finally found it. Yay! Problem is, HUNK has one with green shoulders and black pouches and straps. None of them are like that, so I'll need to have some customization done when it arrives. Heck. It's a really nice one, so nice that Koopa is considering buying one just to hold things in.

The stuff I've yet to buy/ fabricate.
- The Elbow pads. You want a story? I think the model I need is discontinued.
- The boots. I have some decent-looking boots that would probably do the job except that they're cheap-ass walmart boots and one boot has started cracking and peeling when I have to clean the cutting room. I want to buy a new pair anyway, so I don't mind spending some money on these. I've found that the more expensive the footwear is, the more comfortable and long-lasting they are. You get what you pay for. Not like other clothing.
- The gun. HUNK uses a customized Steyr TMP (Tactical Machine Pistol) with a shoulder stock. The airsoft version is very popular and under-produced, so finding one is hard. Finding the stock was a monumental pain and when I did finally find one, the damn thing is only made at a very high quality and is sold for $115 USD. More than I'm willing to spend on that one little detail, so for now my HUNK costume shall be incomplete. The gun, however, is less than $10, and I'll need to remove the scope, fill in the screw holes and lines with modeling putty, then spray paint it. In order to get a more authentic look, I'm thinking of coloring it with a chrome spray paint to give it the look of metal, covering that with an automotive primer (which has worked well in the past), and then going with the black/ oily gunmetal colors. Any suggestions?
- The gloves. Still working on finding the right ones.
- The red lenses. Avon actually sells them. They're flashbang protection lenses, but they're freaking $90. So, I have thought of this. Buying watch glasses and giving those a light blood red and copper coating. Not enough to completely color the lenses (I want to be able to see), but enough to obscure my face behind them.
And I am out of time.

The ho and the hum [Jan. 15th, 2008|03:09 am]

So just to let you all know, I'm done planning ACen. Its a hassle, and I'm done. No more.
Registration is all yours, like last year.
Hotel? I'll see about getting one. For me. And maybe a few people I know I don't have to hassle for money. If I don't ask you, you can still ask me. With the money at hand. I'm not going to say "yes" to a "maybe" again. No sir.
Maybe I'm overreacting, but I'll bet Kinder can attest to how much of a massive pain in the ass it is to organize for GenCon. And I am of course no exception (though there WERE serious and legitimate money issues surrounding my hesitation).
Anyway, it's not really so much about Acen as it is something else. Its very abstract and tough to explain, mostly because I remember things pertaining to this happening, but not which things specifically. Again, very abstract.

In other news, I really need to organize all the stuff I moved into my room at my dad's house. And it is rather lonely here sometimes. I'm kinda used to it, and video games keep me occupied, but oh the things I'd do for one of these long days with a girl.

Speaking of girls....aw fuck it. I'm too tired anyhow.

Merry Christmas! [Dec. 25th, 2007|11:05 pm]
[Current Location |My Room]
[Current Mood | Happy yet so depressed.]
[Current Music |Foo Fighters - The Pretender]

Hey everyone, where are all the journal entries list the Christmas loot?
Ah, oh well. I guess I'll list the favorites.

- A Nautica Bathrobe - Holy crap this thing is soooo soft and warm. It's almost like microfiber, but it's not. I assume it is the fur of some endangered alien sheep.

- A Vase - Not terribly exciting for a 20-year-old guy, but it is a nice vase. I'll post a picture of it if I ever manage to find the online gallery. It's a handmade, one-of-kind piece from an up-and-coming potter. Maybe someday it'll be a rare collectible. I'll have to be sure to take good care of it.

- 4GB flash drive. A lovely replacement for the one I lost/ was stolen. Too bad it can't replace the grades and time I wasted in my CIS 122 class when all my work went with it.

- Guitar Hero III - HELL YEAH! Need I say more?

- Oh yes, and a Hoodie. A nice one. My first one, actually. Not really a hoodie owner, but I'll make an exception for this one.

EEEEETHREEEE!!!! [Jul. 12th, 2007|09:40 pm]
Well, it's the middle of E3...uh...hmmm....not as good as it's previous iteration, but still good. I would miss it if it went away.

Highlights!
-New Halo 3 trailer and a live-action teaser which is super-sweet.
-Absolute lack of information on the other Halo-related projects!
-Lame Halo-themed Xbox 360!
-New MGS4 video! Looks freakin' sweet! Also confirmed as PS3-exclusive! STFU 360 fanboys!
-Killzone 2 actually looks pretty damn cool! Almost as good as the pre-rendered trailer!
-Call of Duty 4= Holy crap.
-Disappointing Nintendo pressy!
-Nintendo is milking it's Wii shortages through the holidays!
-Why am I shouting!?

Enjoy that.

Back from Japan [Jun. 17th, 2007|06:01 pm]
Well, I'm back from Japan. Spend a week or so there. My head's still swimming from all the jet lag, so I can't say for sure how long at the moment.
I do remember a basic outline of the events that transpired there, though.
Woke up on Friday June 8th at 3am, took a shower, put on 2 layers of deodorant, got dressed, got in the car and drove to O'hare. Flew in a 777 to San Francisco, then ate lunch. 2 hours pass by after getting to San Fran, then we get on another 777 bound for Osaka.
It's a ten hour flight. I sleep maybe half an hour, but according to Sam, I was sleeping much longer than that. Anyway, we arrived in Osaka, went through customs, then drove through the rather enormous city of Osaka (Japanese cities have this tendency to string together and go on forever and ever, so it was probably 2 or 3 cities we drove through). Stayed there for a night and saw Osaka castle, then drove to the amazing city that is Kyoto. I...seriously want to live there. Don't tell me that I was just on vacation, so I didn't the full taste of what it's like to live there, but I'm serious. I thought about it since I took a walk down the street and saw the good and the bad. Yes, I did get just a taste, but I made it a point to sample every aspect of life in Japan, no matter how briefly I encountered it. Anyway, there we went to a shrine (I forget what it's called, but it's very orange), the Golden Pavilion, and then the Shogun's royal palace. Very cool. Anti-ninja floorboards.
While there we took a train to Nara, which has an incredible Buddha statue (the biggest in the world) which is housed in an even more impressive temple. The temple and the gates are very ancient, dating back to the 7th century. The Buddha had to be rebuilt at some point, though. But another great thing about Nara is the tame deer. I've seen deer allowed to go mingle with people, but I've never seen them so docile...even when you have their food.
Next day, took the Shinkansen to Hokate and took a ferry around a caldera and then a rope way up to the top of a mountain. I took lots of pictures, but none of them truly do the scenery justice. Especially since  you could see Mt. Fuji from there. It was big, it was huge, it was breathtaking.
Then we stayed in a traditional hotel where I had the opportunity to use a steambath. Wasn't too bad until all the Asian guys came in and tried talking to me in broken English. Although there are several things of note, the best part was the fish the let you pet it.
After that, we hopped on a bus and rode to Tokyo. There I did most of my shopping. Great city if you're constantly in need of stuff. Just whatever you want, you can probably find there. Like living in the internet. Saw a lot of stuff, went to Akihabara. I wanted to cry there. Partly because I found entire floors of Gundam stuff, but mostly because all the TV's are LOUD and they're everywhere and trying to drown each other out. Overstimulating. Still awesome though.
Last day: took a trip to Nikko, which was very pretty. Another caldera, but the water here was much clearer, and the scenery quieter. Also, the water here goes to a waterfall, which I will post pictures of later.
Anyway, that's all for now.

(no subject) [May. 14th, 2007|11:51 pm]
Well, I suppose I should do a brief re-cap. Well, it'll probably be pretty long and I'll probably forget I'm writing it and go to Aerisdies and moderate my forums and then I'll fall asleep in front of the computer again, but I'll do my best.
Good stuff:
Nabeshin was there. Went to two of his hilarious fan panels. Saw a premiere of his new show, which was also pretty good. Might have to check into when it comes over here.
Went to the Trigun panel. Not as good as Nabeshin, as Yasushirow Nightow is kind of a slow, methodical speaker. Still good, though.
There was a Seras Victoria there who was really attractive. Didn't get a picture though. *sadness*
The Hotel room was rather nice.
Bought a hentai game with Koopa. It amused everyone for hours.
Got some good Manga.
Picked up Battle Royale and an autographed copy of Red vs. Blue season 4.
Got an awesome "This is Zeldaaaaaa!" t-shirt.

Bad things:
hotel was far away.
confusing roads.
Cody is alright except WHEN HE WHINES! I was ready to bitchslap him Friday night. Stephanie, if you read this, tell your boyfriend to cool it when he doesn't get his way.
Long badge lines which I shouldn't have even been in in the first place.
Got to Mitsuwa a bit late. Barely got anything at all, much less the intended dinner.
Didn't cosplay.

Well...even so it ws still very much enjoyable. Next year we're aiming to make it a whole lot smoother and complete, but then again I've been saying that every year. 2005 was the peak IMO.

Well, I was kinda bummin' because there's pretty much no game news, Penny Arcade hasn't updated, and Trigun Maximum volume 12 is nowhere in sight.
But it's all better now, because Dark Horse finally announced the release date of Hellsing volume 8!
Touch me.
Granted, I won't be able to get my hands on it until after I go to Japan, but hey. At least they didn't drop the series entirely.

Meat and Love [Feb. 14th, 2007|10:21 am]
Happy valentine's day. Hearts and love and babies.

VGcats has some good ones, but that's my favorite.

Anyway, little rant for people who will never read this.
Let me explain something about meat, ground beef in particular. When meat touches more meat it turns brown, because there's no oxygen touching it. It doesn't look red. That's all. The only reason the outside of meat is red is because the hemoglobin is in contact with oxygen. It's not just natually red. The only way to get 100% red ground beef is to go FIRST THING in the morning when they haven't even ground it up yet. That way, it's all been exposed to the atmosphere and is nice and evenly red. In a matter of maybe an hour or two, I garuntee you the color will change. This principle does not apply to fat, though. So when you're buying the 80% beef, you're not going to see a lot of brown in there because there's more fat. When you're buying the 95% ground sirloin, there's hardly any fat to offset the browning, so don't bitch to me that you "want the red stuff" because it's all red, but ONLY ON THE OUTSIDE! Furthermore, it only affects the beef as if food coloring had worn out. It doesn't affect the quality AT ALL. Besides, when you cook it, it turns BROWN anyway! Now, listen to the nice, trained, educated meat market person and eat a STFU sandwich next time you come in.

The meager update... [Feb. 13th, 2007|12:07 am]
So...I don't really use LJ anymore.
I'll still update when I can, but I just don't have the time/ energy that I used to for this. Too spread out now.
So, I just got back from visiting Rebecca at Michigan Tech with Jessika and Rebecca's parents. Very lovely visit. Saw some nice ice sculptures, an awesome comedian who I guarantee will be recognized alongside any of the other big-time comedians. Good food, awesome campus.
I tihnk I'm gonna apply there, but I do have two problems with it.
1) Friggin' EXPENSIVE, at least for my family but hopefully FAFSA will help.
2) I can still do what I want to do with a CS major from there, but I would be unable to get formal 3ds Max (and other such programs) training, which would be a big bonus for what I'm trying to do. I mean, I can still get the kind of job I want, even a more permanant and higher-paying job with a CS major, but I've fallen in love with 3D design and animation.
Sorry, Rebecca...might not go there. Money is awesome, but not so much when you could have very easily done what you really wanted to do.

Hurray stuff! [Dec. 26th, 2006|04:10 pm]
I hate posting here to talk about what I got because I seem so materialistic whenever I do.
So this year, I will mention one or two things and leave it at that.
Really, I'm not materialistic; I gave quite a lot for my budget. Of course, that doesn't make me not materialistic. I buy the gifts not because it's simply tradition, or because I feel obligated, or even because I just don't want to hear how cheap I was on Christmas for the next year. I get my family and friends gifts because I want them to know I care. I know a lot of people who go out and buy the door busters at the local stores and then decide what will go to who when they get home (like my sister who grabbed a stereo at Macy's for my dad, who loves music but already has several radios, one of which is a Sirius sattalite radio). I sit at home, think about what to get each person, and then go out to the stores (if I decide that what they would like is more material than something else like a good house-cleaning or food preparation) and go from store to store to store looking for what to get each person. I practiacally killed myself looking for a gift for Pam, who will not even be related to me a month from now. I was going to get Nathan some Legos, but then I overheard my mom saying he was having difficulty reading, so I went out and spent a little extra money getting a book I could read to him that he would be interested in learning to read, because I want him to be able to read.
Well, here's the stuff I got:
A cool camera, a cool TV, and a sweet necktie. Maybe I'll fill in details later.

Blah.. [Nov. 12th, 2006|11:59 pm]
[Current Mood | depressed]
[Current Music |Frou Frou- "Must Be Dreaming"]

I'm tired. Working and going to school while fufilling obligations with two families really sucks sometimes.
What sucks even more is that I am starting to fear the stability of one of those families. More on that, should anything develop.
The house is STILL under construction. I'm starting to get tired of it, especially since I found a dead squirrel in the upstairs toilet. Yup. Funny story, but I'm not in a funny mood right now.
Got some new headphones for my computer. They're quite nice, and reasonably priced. I think they'll last longer than the other ones.
EGM has some interesting info this month. They have a PS3 vs. Wii section (which is silly considering the Wii was designed not to compete with the PS3 or 360. They also mentioned that MGS4 might also release on the 360, which makes me sad. But the reason I bought the magazine was because they have a huge exclusive story on Halo 3. Very cool. Can't wait to play it.
Not much else to talk about. I'm hoping that I'll meet a girl soon. There's someone in my english class, maybe I'll ask her.
Yup, that's about it.

It's been quite a while... [Nov. 2nd, 2006|02:28 am]
[Current Mood | Very Primal]
[Current Music |Remind Me- Royksopp]

Wow. Yeah. It's been very long.
I had a big-ass update brewing about a month ago, but close to the end the power got pulled and I really didn't feel like re-typing everything.
So much has happened. I don't even remember when I last updated.
Let's see....I've been working out. Still no luck on shrinking my belly, but my muscle tone is improving. Should look good the next time I go to the beach.
My hair continues to grown longer and longer. I think it's been years since it's been this long. Then again, it might have been a decade, or even never.
Due to irritated eyes, I once again wear glasses. They look snazzy. With my hair slicked back, I look kind of evil in a suit. Mmmm...
Still no luck on the girlfriend front. Suprise. Oh well. As it is, I couldn't afford a girlfriend right now anyway. I'll just look at it that way for now.
Halloween sucked this year. Well, Gort's party was prety cool, except for the part where I thought I just watched Josh die. Took me 2 and a half days to suppress that memory. Heh heh..the spiked Jell-o was cool, but I honestly prefer it without the alcohol. Tastes better.
The job is going pretty well. Not much else to say.
I can't help but wonder how Rebecca will have changed when she comes home from college. Most of my friends don't change that much, but Rebecca, you tend to change over time according to your surroundings. Nothing wrong with it, it's part of what makes you yourself.
Recently my only distractions from life have been Halo and Half-Life. Speaking of which, I just finsihed the new Halo novel. Very interesting. A dimensionally-compressed micro dyson sphere at the core of a planet which only has a superficial frame made of millions of networking robots. So yeah. I just ruined the end of the book there. Not that any of you were gonna read it.
From that, I can only surmise that everyone dies in Halo 3.

5 years since... [Sep. 11th, 2006|12:02 am]
[Current Mood | frustrated]

Already been 5 years, eh? Since that fateful godforsaken morning? When cowardly, power-mad terrorists had thier brainwashed soldiers kill themselves and thousands of others? When Bush was handed the perfect excuse to begin a war and ignore our rights?
Doesn't seem like it's been that long. Rather, maybe it was meant to happen so fast we wouldn't realize what was happening until it was too late.
Conspiracy theory? Not so much. Just an angry young man lashing out.
